Nestled at the foot of the Cerro Torre Mountain, the path leading to Laguna Torre offers breathtaking landscapes. Cerro Torre is renowned as one of the most formidable rock climbing peaks globally but that is not part of this hike. The trail will take you across a beautiful river, forest and silver meadow where the forest was burnt due to wild fires.

After only 15 minutes walk you will access the first viewpoint located at the gorge of the Fitz Roy river which offers an impressive panoramic view of the Cerro Solo, Adela range, Cerro Torre and the Mount Fitz Roy.

Till further from Laguna Torres is Mirador Maestri, a viewpoint on the far right of Laguna Torre with best views of Glacier Torre.

Difficulty

It is moderate trail with some elevation gain. It’s well-marked and an easy route to follow without a guide. Wear layers as it be warm in forest but can get very windy closer to the lake.

Getting to Mirador Maestri is more challenging with a few inclines and rocky and uneven path. Allow an extra 1.5 hours for the additional trail.

Getting there

But be warned, it’s a popular hike. If you want to enjoy the landscapes and views of Cerro Torre without the crowds, you’ll have to start early.

The Laguna Torre hike starts from the end of Los Charitos Street in El Chalten. It is an out and back trail. There is an option to camp at De Agostini camp closer to the lake. Camping will give you the best chance to see and take pictures of Cerro Torre lit by morning sunlight.
