Highlights
Amazing views of Grindelwald valley and Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains along the entire way. These are the peaks that have made Bernese Alps such a popular destination. It’s a stunning and quick hike for families or anyone short on time. It was snowing on the trail when we were there in September which made the views even more beautiful.
There are signs of the Korean TV series “Crash Landing on you” at some points which are popular photo booths.
This hike and region is the best of Alps or among the best. It features is many movies in many languages.
Difficulty
This hike is suitable for all ages and ability levels. Most of the trail is flat or gently goes downhill the entire way. It can also be called stroller friendly with stroller that have sturdy wheels and can go off road.
Families
Definitely something kids of all ages can do. Short and easy enough to carry a toddler in a backpack. Kids will also enjoy the cable car and train ride as well. We did this hike with a 2 year old who had a blast while walking and in the backpack. Kleine Scheidegg station has couple of restaurants where you can buy snacks before the train ride.
Getting there
Ride the cable car to Männlichen from Grindelwald Terminal (different from Grindelwald Grund and Grindelwald station) or Wegen depending on where you are coming from. If you are driving there is ample parking at Grindelwald Terminal. Cable car from Grindelwald Terminal takes about 15-20 mins and you get amazing views of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains from the gandola.
On return from Kleine Scheidegg, ride the train to your next destination (the train goes to Grindelwald Grund (very close to Grindelwald Terminal and parking) and Wengen. Both are connected to further destinations.
